New General Motors app lets you order and shop from your vehicle

The GM logo is seen at the General Motors Assembly Plant in Ramos Arizpe in Coahuila state Mexico

The Detroit automaker says the technology, which is rolling out to 4 million cars and trucks in the US through the end of the year via over-the-air updates, adheres to federal distracted driving guidelines and only works with customer consent because personal data is transferred between the vehicle and merchants to complete sales. Many cars come equipped with music apps such as Pandora or reservation apps like OpenTable, both of which let drivers poke through digital lists.

In an ongoing effort to redesign the driving experience to include more smartphone-style features, General Motors unveiled a new service today called Marketplace in which owners can pre-purchase coffee and gas, or make restaurant reservations, all from the drivers seat.

There will be limits to the functionality of the new marketplace feature since it's created to be used while driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says distracted driving was responsible for 3,477 fatalities and 391,000 injuries in 2015, the most recent year for which it has data.

"Leveraging connectivity and our unique data capabilities, we have an opportunity to make every trip more productive and give our customers time back", Chamorro said in a statement released by GM Tuesday. The technology will be installed in about 1.9 million models manufactured in 2017, and 4 million models across Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, and Cadillac brands in the the end of 2018. Marketplace will reportedly feature a "Shop" tab that will allow users to but WiFi data, and special discounts for GM customers like oil changes and auto accessories. Customers can "expect to see more service promotions coming through the platform", Chamorro said.

Google Maps introduces,'Two-wheeler', mode as an India first feature
At the third annual " Google for India" event in Delhi, the company rolled out 2-wheeler mode for Google Maps in India. In India, some highways don't allow motorcycles on them either, so the new navigation routes will avoid those roads.

Interested companies can contact partner companies Xevo, Conversable, or Sionic Mobile, or email GM directly to get their services integrated with Marketplace.

Marketplace is an evolution of AtYourService, which used OnStar to provide drivers with information from merchants along their route.

The app, dubbed Marketplace, allows drivers to browse deals and place orders through an in-dash touchscreen with several major brands such as Starbucks Corp., TGI Friday's, and Dunkin' Donuts Inc.

Starbucks offers another convenient way for customers to order ahead and enjoy their favorite handcrafted beverage or food item. Dunkin Donuts, Applebee's, TGI Fridays and IHOP are set to be featured alongside a list of other food options. Exxon Mobil and Shell will use the app to help customers find a nearby service station.
