Qatar's Emir heads to Germany, France and USA to discuss Gulf dispute

Qatar said to be seeking meetings with US Jewish leaders

Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani visited Turkey on late Thursday to hold talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, local news agencies reported Thursday.

Upon his arrival at Esenboga International Airport, the Emir was welcomed by Turkish Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mehmet Simsek, Governor of Ankara Ercan Topaca and Qatar's Ambassador Salem bin Mubarak al-Shafi in addition to senior officials and members of the Qatari Embassy.

Ankara has been major supporter of Doha since the standoff with Riyadh and its regional allies erupted in June, leaving Qatar diplomatically and economically isolated.

Now the Qatari emir has picked Turkey for his first overseas trip, a week before the world leaders' United Nations meeting in NY. The statement was in response to the remarks made in the speech of the Qatari delegate during the panel discussion on the unilateral measures of human rights and coercion during the current session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

"Turkey gave a clear message that they [the Saudi-led bloc] must give up the idea of a military operation against Qatar by sending troops and military equipment".

Trump signs resolution condemning hate groups following August 12 rally
In a White House statement issued Thursday, Trump said he opposed bigotry in all forms and was "pleased" to sign the resolution . The president's remarks aboard Air Force One late Thursday addressed a meeting he had a day earlier with Sen.

Al-Thani will hold talks on "bilateral ties and regional as well as global developments", the Turkish presidency said.

Moreover, over the last two decades, the major US Jewish groups have sent delegations to all the Gulf states, including Qatar, as well as conferring regularly with Gulf Arab diplomats in NY and Washington, DC - one result of the warming of relations between Israel and the Arab states during the 1990s, which opened up new diplomatic opportunities for American Jewish groups.

The bloc later modified the demands and reduced it to six broad principles, excluding the closure of Al Jazeera from the list.

The two leaders reaffirmed commitment to resolve the crisis through diplomatic means, and to cooperate on regional problems, sources added.

"We have a crisis, the government of Qatar has to admit it", al-Hail said. "So I expect no solution to the crisis in the short term, but the diplomatic process will start soon", Tuz said.
