Play was suspended on the final day of the Surrey-Middlesex clash.

The County Championship game between Surrey and Middlesex was suspended on Thursday after an arrow was sacked at the field of play, landing near a player in the outfield.

The item was brought to the attention of umpires who informed players to leave the field.

Surrey cricketer Stuart Meaker said: "We have just officially gone off the field because a metal-tipped arrow just landed on the pitch!" "The umpires took it out of the ground and took the players off".

Nobody was hurt, but the game at the Oval ground between Surrey and Middlesex was abandoned as police evacuated the stadium.

Shortly before 4.30pm, when play stopped because of the arrow falling on the square, Middlesex were 214-7, though the match has now been abandoned.

No arrests have yet been made in connection with the incident and officers are "keeping an open mind" as to the motive withe enquiries continue, the spokesman added.
