Rohingya Crisis and Human Rights Abuse

Myanmar Rohingya

About 1,000 persecuted Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar's western Rakhine state have fled to neighboring Bangladesh after coming under fire from military soldiers.

Ethnic Rakhine Buddhists and other tribal groups are also among the dead and displaced after allegedly being targeted by Rohingya militants.

When asked, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Commanding Officer SMS Ariful Islam said: "We have not heard about the boat capsize but we have been informed that four bodies were seen off the shore".

Officials said two more boats capsized on Thursday, killing at least 17 people, many of them children. "When huge waves tilted the boat, we panicked", Shah Karim said. Wirathu also denounced worldwide aid groups that the government has accused, without evidence, of giving assistance to the Rohingya insurgents.

Thousands of Rohingyas refugees turned up here at the city centre to protest against atrocities on Rohingyas in Rakhine state in Myanmar.

First positive case of West Nile reported in Waterloo region
Mosquitoes are the creatures more often infected with West Nile. "Everything does clear up, but it's not a fun illness to have". Despite the impending end of summer, the health unit recommends people still take the proper precautions .

The violence marks a dramatic escalation of a conflict that has simmered since October, when a similar, but much smaller, series of Rohingya attacks on security posts prompted a fierce military response. Lee said that if human rights concerns are not properly addressed and if people remain politically and economically marginalized, then northern Rakhine may provide fertile ground for radicalization, with people becoming increasingly vulnerable to recruitment by extremists. Monitors said there have been few, if any, insurgent attacks reported since Friday's initial offensive. They face severe persecution in the Buddhist-majority country, which refuses to recognize them as a legitimate native ethnic minority, leaving them without citizenship and basic rights.

Bangladeshi authorities have stepped up patrols to prevent more Rohingya from entering the country. The Dumlupınar Battle on August 30, 1922 also saw invading Greek forces' eventual defeat at the hands of the Turkish army.

In a telephone call to the Secretary General, Erdogan stressed the vital importance of urgent intervention by the United Nations and the global community to stop the crisis.

Khadija Begum, a Rohingya woman from Rathedaung, was detained on arrival by Bangladeshi officials.

Aid workers say contingency stocks of materials are low and their biggest problem is extreme overcrowding in makeshift settlements.
