Ferrari Portofino set to replace California T

New Ferrari Portofino Is Maranello's Beautiful Drop Top GT

No word on pricing at this stage, but it's worth remembering that the Ferrari Portofino is considered the automaker's entry-level auto. The engine sends 591 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The Ferrari Portofino will make its official world debut at the upcoming Frankfurt International Motor Show in September.

Ferrari has also confirmed the Portofino, named after an Italian coastal town, will be its first model to feature electric power steering.

Italian luxury sportscar maker Ferrari has unveiled the Ferrari Portofino, its new entry level model that was a long awaited replacement of the California. Because the V8 sits behind the front axle, the Portofino's weight distribution is 46/54 percent front/rear.

First launched back at the 2008 Paris motor show, the Ferrari California has now been around for almost a decade in more or less the same form, even though the model's mid-life update constituted an update from a 4.3-litre naturally aspirated V8 to modern, turbocharged power and a 3.9-litre engine.

Magnetorheological dampers are standard, now packing twin-coil technology to improve ride comfort when cruising, yet offer steel-like grip and body control when charging.

Looks like Malia Obama has moved in at Harvard
Plenty of photographers and reporters were on-hand to witness the event, but no one rushed up to her or made any commotion. Malia Obama's arrival on the Harvard University campus on Tuesday (22Aug17) caused a stir among students on social media.

Ferrari is officially saying goodbye to the Ferrari California T with the introduction of the 2018 Ferrari Portofino.

So what's changed? The chassis for a start, described by Ferrari as offering a "significant weight saving" over the Cali, with an increase in torsional rigidity too.

Powered by a 592bhp development of the California's turbocharged V8, it's expected to crack 200mph courtesy of Ferrari's odd phrasing that its top speed will be "over 199mph".

The Portofino bears greater resemblance to recent Ferrari models than the California T, whose design can be traced back to the original California model launched in 2008. The front bumper is installed with large twin secondary intakes while the front fender gets air fins and a vent to channel the air out of the front wheel arches.

The Portofino uses a folding hardtop roof to protect occupants from the elements. There's also an electrically deployable wind deflector that is said to reduce wind flow into the interior by 30%, helping to make the vehicle quieter at speed.
