S/African opposition to table motion to dissolve House

South African President Jacob Zuma has come under increasing criticism from within his own party

Zuma survived by a relatively narrow margin with 177 MPs voting for his removal and 198 voting for him to remain president.

Maimane said he believed that South African voters should be given a chance to express their opinion about the "conduct of the ANC [African National Congress] in defending Jacob Zuma".

Tuesday's no-confidence motion was the first to be held by secret ballot, and more than 25 members of his ruling party revolted and supported the motion or abstained, the ANC said.

MPs celebrate an unsuccessful vote of no-confidence against President Jacob Zuma on August 8, 2017 in the National Assembly in Cape Town.

The ANC is expected to replace Zuma as party president at a meeting in December, but his term as head of state is set to continue until elections in 2019. According to South African news site, ThamesLIVE, a majority of 201 votes, 50% of the National Assembly's 400 members of parliament plus one, would be needed for Zuma to be pushed out. "There's absolutely no way that the attempt by the DA with the motion that they're proposing will succeed", he says.

It turns out that the Amazon Alexa Fund and China-based Tencent Holdings have contributed the $300 million package. After two months of delays, the Essential Phone still doesn't have a final release date pinned down.

The ANC on Wednesday denounced the DA for attempting to dissolve Parliament to pave way for early elections when the DA announced its plan.

The dissolution motion comes hot on the heels of a no confidence vote which Zuma narrowly survived earlier this week.

"This planned motion by the DA shows that the DA does not respect our democracy and the electorate of South Africa", said Nonceba Mhlauli, spokesperson of the Office of the ANC Chief Whip. Let's fight an election for the future of our country, and let's do it now.

"We need a new government and a new beginning now".
