Christy Clark to step down as BC Liberal leader

BC Liberal Leader Christy Clark

Following Christy Clark's resignation as leader of the BC Liberals and as MLA of her Kelowna-West riding, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation is warning British Columbians about the cost of Clark's departure.

The party position is open after Clark announced she would step aside Friday.

When asked, Coleman said Clark had the support of caucus and it was her decision alone to resign.

The statement says that Coleman and the BC Liberal Caucus will get straight to work preparing for the recall of the Legislature and will also provide details of critic appointments.

Coleman said the job of a premier takes 60 to 70 hours per week and he believes Clark wants to spend more time with her teenage son and her family.

She also called her government's protection of the Great Bear Rainforest "British Columbia's gift to the world".

"I'm certain that British Columbia's best days, and our parties, are still ahead of us", added Clark. To admit that the B.C. Liberals going forward will be better off without her as leader must have been even more hard.

"She created a team", said Larson.

The liberals have to set a date for a leadership vote within the next month. "I wish she had hung on, but I understand why she thinks it's better for the party to have fresh leadership".

Cate Blanchett to Play Lucille Ball in Aaron Sorkin-Scripted Drama
And now Australian star Cate Blanchett has been tipped to play Lucille in an authorised biopic about the American actress. The West Wing writer Aaron Sorkin is set to write the film and we can hear the fait ring of Oscar nominations in our ears.

"Many ignorant opinions - only a few know CC [Christy Clark] - she is a strong, intelligent, compassionate woman who chose party & province over self", he wrote.

McCain's very presence, along with his rebellious vote, were principled acts of personal and political courage, hardly surprising from a man who survived years as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam and then returned home to dedicate the rest of his life to public service.

It was during her term that the government unilaterally curtailed teachers' contracts.

When former premier Gordon Campbell announced he was quitting, Clark became an immediate front-runner in the race to replace him. "He called Finance Minister Mike de Jong too hard, but had more criticism up his sleeve for the premier", Mackin reported. "She's been the greatest person that I've worked for".

Telford said former Prime Minister Stephen Harper took that to heart and left and "gave a respectable amount of time" before announcing his resignation as leader of the Conservative Party and MP.

Her Liberals won the most seats in the May 9 election, with 43, but they fell one short of a gaining a majority.

Clark's Liberals governed British Columbia for a total of 5,869 days or 16 years.

The truest signs of leadership, whether it's politics, business or sports, is putting others first, by crediting everyone else for the wins and taking sole responsibility for the loses.
