Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller Has Requested White House Documents On Michael Flynn

JUNE 21 2017 FILE

These investigators have called the White House to produce documents about Michael Flynn, the former national security adviser to president Donald Trump, according to the daily, citing officials close to the investigation.

Mueller's focus on the payments marks the first time his investigation has asked the White House to submit documents for its review.

The line of questioning shows that Mueller's inquiry has expanded into a full-fledged examination of Flynn's financial dealings, beyond the relatively narrow question of whether he failed to register as a foreign agent or lied about his conversations and business arrangements with Russian officials.

Flynn's former lobbying firm, the Flynn Intel Group, was paid $530,000 to represent Ekim Alptekin, a Turkish businessman, during the final months of the USA presidential campaign, according to foreign agent registration paperwork filed with the Justice Department.

Senate Republicans gradually turning their backs on Trump
He said the party is in "denial" about President Trump and has given in to harmful impulses like "nativism" and "protectionism". Josh Daniels, Flake's campaign manager, said the senator has always "been honest when he disagrees with any president".

On Friday, the magnitude of Mueller's participation increased with a New York Times story indicating they had requested any and all documents the White House may possess on Flynn.

The severity of Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller's probe of possible collusion between Donald Trump's campaign and Russian Federation leaped ahead on Thursday with the impaneling of a grand jury.

"The White House will not be discussing any specific communications with the Special Counsel out of respect for the Special Counsel and his process".

Mueller, who took over the investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation when Attorney General Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III recused himself, is apparently trying to determine if Flynn received secret payments from the Turkish government in the closing months of the 2016 election. "Beyond that, as I have stressed repeatedly, we continue to fully cooperate with the Special Counsel", Cobb told the Hill magazine.
