Habs send D Beaulieu to Sabres for pick

Nathan Beaulieu had four goals and 24 assists in 74 games for the Canadiens last season

Montreal was in danger of losing Beaulieu in the expansion draft, while Buffalo has room to protect him. Put the two together and now the Sabres added to their defense while the Canadiens will get something in return.

On the score sheet, the blue liner had a breakout season; he even opened up the season on the top pairing with Shea Weber.

The 24-year-old defenseman and former first-round draft choice has been a solid player for the Canadiens the last few seasons.

It'll be from the penthouse to the basement for Beaulieu, who departs the 47-26-9 Canadiens for the 33-37-12 Sabres.
