DETROIT (AP) - A MI congressman who worked with a man critically wounded when a gunman attacked a Republican baseball practice outside Washington said Thursday that his former aide is driven, passionate about agricultural issues and "starting to show his feistiness again". "Baseball is one of his great passions", Mika's family said in the statement, "and he has always loved the Congressional team". He recently came out of surgery but remains in the ICU in critical condition and we expect him to stay there for at least several days.

"Matt Mika, one of the guys who helps us, is here at the hospital", Rep. Kevin Brady, R-Texas, told The Post. He is a graduate of Adrian College.

"Matt Mika was a former staff member during my first term in Congress and has remained a close friend ever since. You know the American people see us on TV debating very contentious issues of concern, but you know when we're off the House and Senate floor, there's a lot of camaraderie", Cotton said.
