Syria's military declares cease-fire over, blames rebel groups

Also on Monday, the United Nations and the Red Star Crescent confirmed that an inter-agency convoy carrying aid for 78,000 people in East Aleppo had been attacked, just a day after AFP reported a a 20-truck aid convoy destined for eastern Aleppo was still stuck in Turkey.

Talbiseh is besieged by government forces. And in eastern Aleppo, a resident reached by Reuters said there had been dozens of blasts. The convoy brought in food, water and hygiene supplies for up to 84,000 people, it said.

Russian and United States officials met in Geneva on Monday and the International Syria Support Group - the countries backing the Syria peace process - were scheduled to meet on Tuesday in NY to assess the ceasefire agreement.

Plans to evacuate several hundred rebels from the last opposition-held district of Homs city have also overshadowed the agreement, with rebels saying it would amount to the government declaring the ceasefire over.

- During that period, aid should start to flow to Aleppo and five other parts of Syria in dire need of humanitarian supplies.

Secretary of State John Kerry says the week-old truce in Syria brokered by the US and Russian Federation is "holding but fragile" despite persistent violence and a lack of aid deliveries to besieged communities.

"The latest example of this is the flagrant American aggression on one of the Syrian army's positions in Deir Ezzor", said Assad. Nonetheless, it looked set to hold and many Syrians on the ground said they appreciated the halt in fighting.

The United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, meanwhile voiced outrage at the attack on the aid convoy: "Our outrage at this attack is enormous" de Mistura said in a statement.

USA policy is to support "moderate" rebels and negotiate the removal of Assad, though who might replace him and how (the Assad dynasty doesn't accommodate alternatives) is a vexed question.

The US military said it would not intentionally hit Syrian troops, and it came as it was conducting a raid on ISIL positions.

The monitoring group said it was not clear if the jets were Syrian or Russian.

Rudskoi said that it has become "meaningless" for the Syrian government forces to observe the U.S. -Russia-brokered truce in view of continuous rebel violations.

The raid prompted a furious response from Russian Federation and Syria, and led to allegations that the airstrikes on the Syrian soldiers could not have been mistaken.

It is unclear how much longer the ceasefire will continue beyond its last agreed extension to 11:59 p.m. local time Sunday (4:59 p.m. ET).

Rudskoi accused Washington of failing to fulfill its obligations under the truce deal - most importantly to separate the US -backed opposition units from al-Qaida's branch in Syria.

On Monday, the United Kingdom confirmed that British aircraft - believed to be unmanned, remotely-piloted Reaper drones - had been involved in the strike, along with jets from Australia and Denmark.

The UK has pledged to resettle 20,000 Syrian refugees by 2020. Russia's Foreign Ministry said the failure of Syrian rebels to adhere to the truce "threatens the cease-fire and U.S. Indeed, deliveries only began today and only then in limited areas".

But it called on Russian Federation to clarify the Syrian statement.

Corbyn's reconciliation bid undermined by shadow cabinet and deselection issues
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. "I'm trying to remould it because communication is everything", Mr Corbyn said. He said: "It's presented as apparently being a sort of conciliatory gesture by Jeremy".

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which relies on a network of activists inside the country, reported the casualty figures on Monday.

Both the Syrian rebels, supported by the USA -led coalition, and Syrian government troops, backed by Russian Federation, accused each other of violating the ceasefire since it took effect last Monday.

Australian, Danish and U.S. air forces were also involved in the raid.

"The regime of Bashar Assad had no real intention to commit to the truce".

Uncertainties are prevailing about the truce, which is now in its seventh day.

Kerry - who brokered the deal along with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov - said in NY that Russia had failed to meet its side of a deal to enforce the truce, but that Washington was willing to keep working on it.

But the Syrian military and rebels have accused each other of violating the truce.

Denmark says two of its F-16 fighter jets took part in the USA -led air raid that killed dozens of Syrian soldiers over the weekend.

One unconfirmed report said 12 people were killed in the attack near the town of Urm al-Kubra.

CNN military analyst Lt. Col. Rick Francona said Saturday the airstrike could have jeopardized the plan for Moscow and Washington to work together.

In the wake of the Syrian military declaration, US Secretary of State John Kerry expressed annoyance at Damascus and Moscow's handling of the ceasefire.

The deal, brokered by the United States and Russian Federation, took effect on September 12.

George Sabra, of the opposition High Negotiations Committee, told The Associated Press on Monday that the truce has been repeatedly violated and did not succeed in its main objective or opening roads for aid. The opposition reported on Monday 254 violations by government forces and their allies since the truce started.

Barazi said on Sunday that 250-300 rebels were due to be evacuated from Waer, on Monday.

The Syrian military could not immediately be reached for comment.

The US said they may have accidentally hit a government position while trying to attack so-called Islamic State, who are not covered by the ceasefire.

"The convoy was the outcome of a long process of permission and preparations to assist isolated civilians", he said in a statement emailed to Reuters.

Turkey recently sent troops into northern Syria to take territory from IS as well as from Kurdish fighters.
