The State Department Reopens The Investigation Into Clinton's Private Email Server

The State Department launched a probe into the emails in January after stating that 22 messages sent from Clinton's private server were "top secret".

Kirby did not give details about the precise information officials were evaluating.

"But, again, I will repeat, because I think this is important, over 300 people were on these email exchanges, some on many, some on a few, and these were experienced professionals who have had great years of dealing with classified material, and whatever they sent me, they did not believe and had, in my view, no reason to believe at the time that it was classified", Clinton said.

"Given the Department of Justice has now made its announcement, the State Department intends to conduct its internal review", State Department spokesman John Kirby said in a statement.

The State Department suspended its review in April to avoid interfering with the FBI's inquiry. Her chief rival for the presidency, Donald Trump, tweeted "Crooked Hillary compromised our national security".

During more than four hours of questioning, Comey said the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee did not lie to Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and did not break the law - and that the decision not to proceed with criminal charges was the unanimous assessment of a group of investigators and analysts whom the director described as an "all-star team" assembled by the Justice Department. Options range from counselling and warnings, to the revocation of an individual's security clearance. Former employees found to be mishandling classified information could also have notes put in their file that could also have consequences if they seek future employment with the government and need security clearance.

F1: Hamilton wins third straight British Grand Prix; Rosberg finishes third
Hamilton turned in an assured drive in a race which started wet under the Safety Car and then transitioned to a dry track. Rosberg was being investigated by stewards after instructions from his team late in the race following a gearbox problem.

Former CIA Operations Officer John Kiriakou told Sputnik he was "sickened" by Comey's decision and that possible sanctioning by the State Department would merely be "window dressing".

"We will aim to be as expeditious as possible, but we will not put artificial deadlines on the process", he said.

One question they were investigating was whether any of the emails were classified at the time of transmission. Blitzer asked Clinton in a live interview.

While FBI Director James Comey's insisted that Clinton not face criminal charges, the State Department will be digging into whether or not Clinton lied to the committee.

The agency's director, James Comey, said it also revealed that Clinton and her aides had been "extremely careless" but had not violated any laws.
