The removal of apps from the Chrome Web Store was actually first announced by Google back in August 2016. Users of Google Chrome on Mac, Linus and Windows PCs will no longer be able to download and install Chrome Apps from now on. Google has started sending out emails to Chrome app developers telling them that Chrome Apps are deprecated, and while previously installed apps still work, the functionality will be stripped out of Chrome in Q1 2018.

The users who are just using Google's Chrome browser to browse the internet website will still be able to download themes and extension, according to the Google's statement. Chrome Apps came in two varieties: "packaged apps" and "hosted apps".

Manchester United's Jose Mourinho pledges only 'the truth' on injuries
United turned the game around with two goals in two minutes from Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford to progress to the last 16 as Group A winners.

The Google Chrome extensions, however, won't be affected and will stay accessible for all for now. Google hasn't announced anything yet for Chrome OS, but it's likely that Chrome apps might go away, too. "Another update will be posted here when a new date for the Chrome Apps EOL on Windows, Mac, and Linux has been finalized". The major difference between chrome web apps and PWAs are the Progressive web apps are cross-platform and cross-browser, while the Chrome apps are limited to Google's browser. These apps are installable and bring features like push notifications, immersive full-screen experience and more.

Now Google has sent an email to developers saying that the depreciation of Chrome Apps in favour of PWA is being delayed. But when it does, it'll mean that PWAs are supported across Chrome and Android devices, which does make you wonder if that's the future of the splintered dual operating system. Because of this, other companies are jumping on the PWA bandwagon: it works on Samsung Android phones in the Samsung browser, Firefox on Android, and Opera on Android. There's still no word on removing Chrome Apps from Chrome OS, though.
