House overwhelmingly votes to defeat Democrat's bid to impeach President Trump

House Democrats Are Going to Try to Impeach President Trump Again

According to CNBC, Green said Trump is "unmindful of the high duties of his high office and the dignity and properties thereof". "It is not about Republicans, it is about the fate of our Republic", Green wrote to colleagues Tuesday.

Still, 58 Democrats voted to advance Mr.

Green argued that Trump should be impeached for his rhetoric against certain racial and ethnic groups, including Latinos, Muslims and blacks.

As examples, Green's articles of impeachment cite Trump's equivocating response to the violence from a white supremacist march in Charlottesville, Va., in August, as well as his attacks on NFL players kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality.

"Legitimate questions have been raised about his fitness to lead this nation", Pelosi and Hoyer continued.

House GOP leaders are expected to reject the measure, but Green can still force a procedural vote that will effectively serve as the first vote in Congress on impeaching Trump.

The resolution offered by Green states that Trump has sown discord among the people of the US based on national origin and race.

The White House quickly dismissed the impeachment effort, labeling Green and his allies "extremists". The leaders said Congressional inquiries and Robert Mueller's investigation into connections between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation should be allowed to continue.

"I love my country", Representative Al Green of Texas said in a memo to colleagues Tuesday, before adding he meant to bring articles of impeachment against a president who was "unmindful of the high duties of his high office and the dignity and properties thereof".

It remains highly unlikely that the majority of House representatives will vote to impeach Trump, as it would be necessary for the motion to be passed onto the Senate for a two-thirds vote.

The Democratic leaders have long believed that any effort to take up Trump's impeachment is premature as long as investigations by multiple congressional committees, as well as by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, are underway.

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer tell Democrats: "Now is not the time to consider articles of impeachment".

The effort is certain to lose.
