Strong IT stocks rupee buoy equity indices

Investors will be looking ahead to a report about India's sovereign ratings from Standard & Poor's. The NSE Nifty trades at 10,383 points, 34 points, 0.33% higher than Thursday's closing.

Mumbai: Driven by more liquidity, the Sensex today rose 102 points and the Nifty above 10,370, after the US Fed minutes showed differences on the policy path forward. However, it slipped later.

The NSE Nifty opened higher at 10,358.45 and moved in a range of 10,374.30 and 10,307.30 before ending at 10,348.75, marginally up by 6.45 points, or 0.06 per cent.

The BSE mid-cap closed higher by 0.58 per cent while the small-cap index was up 0.45 per cent.

The BSE market breadth was bullish - 1,510 advances and 1,225 declines.

Sector-wise, Pharma rose by 0.77 per cent followed by FMCG 0.72 per cent, IT 0.67 per cent, Media 0.56 per cent, Auto 0.40 per cent, Infra 0.32 per cent and Private Bank 0.29 per cent.
