Operation Christmas Child collections begin at Dove Christian Center

Kelowna church expects thousands of Operation Christmas Child donations

Packed by more than 50 volunteers last Wednesday evening at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Jackson, the shoeboxes will be placed in the hands of children across the world who need them most - those touched by war, disease, disaster, poverty and starvation.

Operation Christmas Child boxes are arriving at Unity Baptist Church for initial processing before heading to children around the world.

"I think it's just good to see how much a little thing you do can make such a difference", Pereda said.

In partnership with the Samaritan's Project, they're hoping to bring in around 7,000 boxes West River.

Anyone who wants to try and get a box in during the week can contact one of the drop-off churches for information, or visit the Samaritan's Purse website, where they can even purchase items online to be packed in boxes by OCC volunteers.

Each box is labeled for either a boy or a girl, with an age range clearly noted - child ages 2-4, child ages 5-9 or a child ages 10-14.

This year, the operation hopes to collect almost 90,000 shoeboxes here in the Mid-South.

Joseph needs to assert himself now and fire Brock Olivo in order to start fixing things on a bad special teams unit. Brady immediately looked rejuvenated and then pushed his team to a quick touchdown and the 7-0 lead.

Those will be combined with 12 million other boxes to be shipped out to over 150 countries and territories.

Parker-Moore said what is truly unbelievable is that it's the little things that can be found in the box, like a toothbrush or a wash cloth, that these children really cherish. "What a joy to be a part of something bigger than ourselves like Operation Christmas Child". They will not know where this year's collection goes until the spring.

Donations will be collected through next Monday, November 20.

Candie said she's expecting at least 100 boxes to be sent to those in need from area residents.

Among the gifts, large and small, each shoebox includes a piece of Christian literature in the language of the recipient - whether in Europe, Africa, Asia, South America or elsewhere.

This site will be open from noon to 6 p.m. each day for people to drop off shoeboxes.

Last year, Bethel send 1,145 boxes to Madagascar. Toys, hygiene items and school supplies are encouraged. A church in Blaine and two in Bellingham are also participating.
