Donald Trump: LiAngelo Ball, UCLA Players Should Say Thank You

Donald Trump

On Wednesday, all three admitted their guilt at a news conference in Los Angeles, one day after returning home.

On Wednesday, Trump tweeted that LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill were facing 10 years of jail time.

Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said in a statement released Tuesday that "the matter has been resolved to the satisfaction of the Chinese authorities". They were detained in China before their annual season-opening Pacific-12 game against Georgia Tech in Hangzhou last week, KCBS reported, citing the university.

"I am embarrassed and ashamed for disappointing my family, teammates, coaches and the entire UCLA community", Riley told reporters.

Guerrero also said charges against the trio were withdrawn, but they did admit to being guilty, per Nguyen. He said the trio, who had been held since last week, could have faced long prison sentences. "They (the Chinese) do not play games".

"Before I thank everybody who worked so incredibly hard helping us returning home safely, I want to thank the Chinese government and the police for taking care of us".

Chinese authorities have surveillance footage of the players in the store, and the three could be required to remain in China for another week. "Both Athletics and the Office of Student Conduct will review this incident and guide any action with respect to the involved students".

UCLA says the school will launch its own investigation to decide whether or not to discipline the players, but a suspension of some sorts will probably be handed down if had to guess. "Such proceedings are confidential, which limits the specific information that can be shared".

"I want to be clear that we take seriously any violations of the law", UCLA Chancellor Gene Block said.

USA diplomats have been in contact with the families of the players and have also spoken with UCLA head coach Steve Alford.

Ball's father, LaVar, said in a statement on social media that the process could take months.

A contrite Riley and Hill expressed similar sentiments.
