New weather satellite will help with natural disasters, local forecasts

Boulder's Ball Aerospace, NOAA primed for polar-orbiting satellite launch has been seven years in the planning

NASA develops and builds the instruments, spacecraft and ground system and launches the satellites for NOAA.

The NASA Joint Polar Satellite System 1 (JPSS-1), a weather satellite, which was scheduled for launch onNov.

The satellite, a collaboration between NASA and NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) is meant to relay information back to earth with weather forecasts.

The Joint Polar Satellite System-1, the first in a new series of highly advanced NOAA polar-orbiting satellites, is scheduled to lift off November 10, at 1:47 a.m. PST from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. As Mitch Goldberg, the chief program scientist for JPSS at NASA told Space.com, meteorological catastrophes like hurricanes tend to originate far away from the places they affect. JPSS-1 will allow researchers to monitor changes in the atmosphere in Africa that could cause a hurricane off the coast of Florida, for example.

The Joint Polar Satellite System-1, or JPSS-1, spacecraft is checked out on October 8, 2015, at Ball Aerospace in Boulder, Colorado.

New high blood pressure guidelines
But patients in the 120 systolic blood pressure group had a higher rate of kidney injury or failure, as well as fainting. In terms of lives, the change translates to a 14% increases in the number of adults classified with high blood pressure.

"It's always exciting to launch a satellite", Asbury said Friday. The first stage of the Delta II rocket arrived at Vandenberg's NASA Hangar 836 on April 4, 2016.

On July 12, 2016, the first stage of the ULA Delta II rocket was transported to SLC-2 at Vandenberg and positioned on the launch pad.

Given the very short 66-second launch window, there wasn't enough time to work and solve the problems, so there was no other option but to scrub the launch and reset with a twenty-four hour recycle.

"The launch of JPSS-1 continues the strong, decades-long partnership between NOAA and NASA in developing state-of-the-art Earth observation satellites", said Sandra Smalley, director of NASA's Joint Agency Satellite Division.

It remained unclear when another attempt would occur, but mission managers were tentatively planning to try again for liftoff at 1:47 a.m. Wednesday. JPSS-1, which will be known as NOAA-20 when it reaches orbit, will join Suomi NPP, the joint NOAA-NASA weather satellite, giving the USA the benefit of two, sophisticated polar satellites in the same orbit.
