In those findings, the organization determined more LGBTI people have died in hate-related homicides in 2017 so far than all of 2016.

Hate crimes across the United States accelerated in 2016 as the divisive election battle that saw Donald Trump elected president progressed, Federal Bureau of Investigation statistics showed Monday.

Of the hate crimes reported in South Dakota, six were based on a victim's race or ethnicity, five were based on sexual orientation and three were based on a victim's disability.

The yearly report is the most comprehensive accounting of hate crimes in the U.S. But authorities have long warned it is incomplete, in part because it is based on voluntary reporting by police agencies across the country.

"There's a unsafe disconnect between the rising problem of hate crimes and the lack of credible data being reported", said ADL CEO Jonathan A. Greenblatt.

Sean Hannity fans call for boycott as 3 sponsors pull ads
Another sponsor targeted by Media Matters , Realtor.com, announced that it would not be running ads on Hannity in the future. Gamgort reminded staffers that the company advertises on all the major cable channels, rather than just Fox News .

More than half of those against people were assault cases, while almost 45 percent were crimes of intimidation. A number of these reports have turned out to be false. There were 4,029 single-bias incidents that targeted "Race/Ethnicity/Ancestry" in 2015, compared to 4,229 in 2016. Crimes motivated by anti-Asian bias remained even.

"No person should have to fear being violently attacked because of who they are, what they believe, of how they worship", Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in a statement on Monday. In 2015, this number was 734, indicating a 19.34 percent increase.

Hate crimes happened in a variety of locations. But incidents motivated by anti-Muslim bias saw the greatest increase out of religion-motivated crimes.

These statistics suggest that the most vulnerable target for racial hate crimes in 2016 were not racial minority groups, but white Americans.

Another 21.0 percent were for religion, and 17.7 percent sexual orientation.
