Saudi-led blockade could 'starve and kill' millions in Yemen

Civilians injured in Saudi-led strikes on Yemen capital

This comes as Saudi Arabia recently intercepted a ballistic missile fired from Yemen near the capital, Riyadh.

The United Nations and several humanitarian groups this week warned that millions could die in Yemen from starvation if the blockade, which includes relief aid, was not lifted.

A number of houses were also reportedly damaged in the strike.

Concerned by the rise of the rebels, who are allegedly backed by Iran, Saudi Arabia and a coalition of Sunni Arab states launched a massive air campaign in 2015 aimed at reinstalling President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi's government.

The blockade has already led to a fuel crisis in the rebel-held capital, Sanaa, where hundreds of cars lined the roads Wednesday after the Houthis ordered the closure of fuel stations. Today this was reported by Al Arabiya channel.

Growing complaints about the humanitarian catastrophe in Saudi-blockaded Yemen have led the Saudi government to announce that the al-Wadea border crossing is being reopened.

Commenting about the recent Yemen missile attack targeting the worldwide airport in Riyadh, he said the missile command of the Yemeni army and Popular Committees demonstrated it capability to target the capitals of all hostile countries.

On Thursday, the Houthis rejected the US allegations, saying they built the missile themselves and fired it in response to coalition bombings that have killed civilians and the ongoing blockade.

Iran denies it supplies arms to the Houthis but has said the missile was a reaction to Saudi "aggression".

This follows another attack on October 30 when a missile was sacked from inside of Yemen at a Saudi army base in the Aseer province on the border between the two countries. But ports in Houthi-held areas have remained shut.
