Palace boss Hodgson opens up on links to Jack Wilshere

Wilshere was left out of the England squad by manager Gareth Southgate for their friendlies with Germany and Brazil, despite a number of players dropping out through injury.

Southgate said his decision to omit Wilshere was because he didn't think the 25-year-old was being used in his best position.

Indeed, Gareth Southgate has asserted that Wilshere must feature week in week out in order to make his squad for next summer's tournament, and stuck to his word when he ignored the Arsenal midfielder this week even after Jordan Henderson, Harry Winks and Dele Alli pulled out of global duty.

"I like him very much, but why his name should be being talked about for Crystal Palace, I don't know".

"It didn't come from us - we have never mentioned his name", he was quoted as saying by the Croydon Advertiser.

There appears to be no way back into the first team picture at the Gunners for Wilshere and a move in January looks necessary if he wishes to stand a chance of being part of the Three Lions World Cup squad. "And I'm hoping that we are in a position in March where we can pick him".

Whether Wilshere would want to join a relegation battle with either Palace or West Ham with only six months left on his Arsenal contract remains to be seen, but he would dearly love to go to Russian Federation with England. I work with Dougie Freedman and we talk about potential players, and Jack Wilshere's name has never been mentioned in this room. I am happy with where I am, playing-wise.

Hodgson added: "There may come a time at Crystal Palace where Jack Wilshere would be just the player we are looking for".

"I'd like [Wilshere] to play even more, to be in the starting XI more often and get back into that England team", Adams told the London Evening Standard at this week's premiere for the documentary film "89", which tells the dramatic story of that year's title win.
