Mueller Investigating Flynn Meeting With Pro-Russia GOP Lawmaker

A political enemy to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan cleric Fethullah Gulen could have been whisked out of the country by Michael Flynn and his son sources of the Wall Street Journal say

While Flynn has had a relationship with Turkey, his counsel denies the Wall Street Journal's report, according to CNN.

Citing "people with knowledge of discussions" between Flynn and Turkish representatives, The Journal reported that Flynn and his son were to be paid as much as $15 million by the Turkish government.

Mueller, who is leading the investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 United States election and whether President Donald Trump's campaign colluded with Moscow to tilt the race in his favor, has compiled enough evidence to bring charges against Flynn and his son, NBC News reported on Sunday.

In September, the Wall Street Journal reported a meeting about the plan, in which former Central Intelligence Agency director James Woolsey participated.

Most of what has been reported about Mueller's questioning of Flynn's lobbying work has concerned his efforts on behalf of Turkey.

The new allegation, that Flynn and his son engaged in a conspiracy to arrange the rendition of Fethullah Gülen to the Erdoğan government - which accuses the cleric of plotting an abortive coup in July 2016 - could if confirmed result in even more serious charges. At the time, President-elect Donald Trump already had announced that Flynn, a top campaign supporter and foreign policy aide, would serve as the White House national security adviser.

The report does not expand on what exactly was discussed during that meeting in Washington, D.C., but investigators apparently learned about it while reviewing emails Flynn Intel Group sent to Rohrabacher's staff thanking them for the conversation. According to "people familiar with the investigation", it was at this encounter that the $15m payment was discussed.

The children showed they had been learning some basic skills by presenting an enthusiastic rendition of the Pledge of Allegiance. The Norman Park Elementary Choir sang songs about America and gave handwritten letters of thanks to the veterans in attendance.

The discussions allegedly involved the possibility of transporting Mr. Gulen on a private jet to the Turkish prison island of Imrali, according to one of the people who has spoken to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The Journal report did not allege that any money changed hands and did not detail how far the plan may have developed.

The timing of the 21 Club meeting is significant.

While his investigation is focused on Russian meddling, Mr Mueller has a broad mandate and has homed in on Mr Flynn's activities as Mr Trump's lead national security adviser.

The Mueller investigation into the Flynns is part of an overall probe into the Trump campaign's involvement with Russian Federation.

WASHINGTON, DC - MARCH 19: House Science, Space and Technology Committee member Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) questions witnesses from NASA, the Department of Defense and the White House during a hearing in the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill March 19, 2013 in Washington, DC.

Flynn resigned almost three weeks after Sally Yates, the acting attorney general at the time, warned the White House that Flynn could be vulnerable to Russian blackmail over his conversations with Russia's ambassador to the US, Sergey Kislyak. Barry Coburn, representing Flynn's son, said he had no comment.
