Indianapolis Colts announce release of cornerback Vontae Davis

Vontae Davis: Benching shows 'no respect' from Colts

The Colts said it was a coaching decision while Davis says it was due to his groin injury.

The news comes days after coach Chuck Pagano benched Davis for poor play - which he said had nothing to do with Davis' health.

Late Wednesday night, it was reported that the Colts Pro-Bowl cornerback would need season-ending surgery to fix a lingering groin issue that has hindered his play and even led to a demotion. On Wednesday, Davis told reporters his side of the story.

Pagano and Davis did eventually talk late last week, with the cornerback expressing his displeasure in how things were handled.

"Knowing Chuck I figured it would have come from him", Davis, who has started all 76 games he's played with the Colts, said on Wednesday afternoon.

The team acquired Davis via a trade with the Dolphins in 2012.

Sensex sinks 360 points as Saudi purge stokes inflation fears
In terms of the broader markets, the BSE mid-cap closed lower by 0.77 per cent and the small-cap index lost 0.96 per cent. The 30-scrip S&P BSE Sensex closed at 33,314.56 points - up 63.63 points or 0.19 per cent - from Thursday's close.

Not to mention, the disgruntled Davis would still have access to the team's training and rehabilitation facilities, which could be a distraction-assuming that he doesn't actually want to be in Indianapolis past this season.

Davis was in the final year of a four-year contract.

DENVER, CO - JANUARY 11: Vontae Davis #21 of the Indianapolis Colts catches a ball intended for Demaryius Thomas #88 of the Denver Broncos but is forced out of bounds during a 2014 AFC Divisional Playoff game at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on January 11, 2015 in Denver, Colorado.

"It should be more about the respect". Simply put, he could play one-on-one press coverage against the opposing team's best wide receiver, and allow the Colts to rotate their secondary help elsewhere. He's a two-time Pro Bowl selection. This season, he only played five of 10 games, logged 21 tackles, two passes defensed and no interceptions, all career lows. It was also revealed this week that Davis had been demoted from his starting position. Quincy Wilson, who many Colts fans have been chomping at the bit to see, may make some more appearances in dime packages as well. However, maturity apparently still remains a concern for the rookie cornerback.

His return, which Davis now admits was probably a bit rushed by himself, came on October 1 (Week Four in Seattle).
