Rahul Gandhi: Demonetisation a tragedy, thoughtless act of PM Modi

BJP blows own trumpet over demonetization, Congress observes Black Day

On the first anniversary of demonetisation, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi dubbed the note ban as a tragedy.

"There was an attack on India's economy one year back", Gandhi told reporters in the poll-bound state.

On the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the demonetisation announcement on Wednesday, the Congress scion wrote a tell-all opinion piece in the Financial Times, where Rahul Gandhi outlined the complications that resulted from the "sudden" demonetisation announcement made by PM Modi. "For 15 long years, using a handful of photos, Rahul Gandhi and his party tried every trick in the book to pull down Gujarat", Shah said adding that they created an impression of Gujarat that never existed.

"People who have lost blackmoney are observing black day", he said. "But truth can not be suppressed, it will come out", the Congress leader told reporters.

"These two acts come at a time when global forces place particular demands on India's economic model", Rahul said. "But instead of helping them, the government has destroyed their strength".

The minister also took a dig at Gandhi over his criticism of Gujarat's "historic" development under the BJP and his tweet of his dog "Pidi". They represent India's innovative capabilities and have the skills, knowledge and understanding to take on China's manufacturing machine. "Small businesses are crying due to the GST", Gandhi said.

He also said the new tax regime of GST, the second blow to Indian economy, was "hastily imposed" and "poorly conceptualised". When asked about the toil he had to go through because of demonetisation, Lal said he served in the military and dosen't interfere in government work. "We had said that maximum cap on taxes should be 18% but they did not listen to us", the Congress leader said.

"The prime minister claimed his decision was aimed at wiping out corruption".
