Apple picks up TV show with Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston

Apple Gives Reese Witherspoon-Jennifer Aniston Morning Show Series 2-Season Order, Confirms 'Amazing Stories

After nearly 15 years away from the small screen, the Friends star is joining her former on-screen sister Reese Witherspoon in an Apple drama about the inner workings of a network morning show. Witherspoon, who is coming off the award-winning Big Little Lies, played Aniston's little sister on Friends.

After previously focusing on music-related programs like "Carpool Karaoke: The Series", the news continues to show that Apple is looking to branch out with other content to take on big players like Netflix and Amazon. Aniston and Witherspoon will also executive produce the series.

The series does not have a title or any finished scripts yet, but Apple has already placed a two-season straight-to-series order that will encompass 20 episodes after a bidding war between multiple outlets, per The Hollywood Reporter.

The series is based on an idea from Ellenberg and will draw background material from CNN senior media correspondent Brian Stelter's 2013 book "Top of the Morning", which recounted the recent rivalry between NBC's "Today" and ABC's "Good Morning America".

Ex-President Barack Obama shows up in Chicago for jury duty
With Secret Service agents in tow, former USA president Barack Obama reported Wednesday to a courthouse in Chicago for jury duty. It's safe to say Obama was one of the highest-profile people to report for jury duty in the county's recent history.

The new series marks a TV reunion for its stars, and Witherspoon seems thrilled.

Stetler will serve as the show's consultant and House of Cards writer Jay Carson will executive produce as well as pen the series. Michael Ellenberg, the former head of drama at HBO, will also be an executive producer. Amblin Television's Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey and Hart Hanson exec produce the drama from Universal Television. It's unclear if Apple will make the shows available by iTunes or another platform, and whether access will be based on a subscription or advertising-based model.

Reese, 41, posted a snap of the two to her 17 million Instagram followers, alongside the caption: 'So excited to be back and reunited with this one-of-a-kind lady!

Stelter is repped by ICM Partners.
