Almost 38 million fire extinguishers recalled

More Than 40 Million Fire Extinguishers Recalled for Safety Hazard

The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of about 37.8 million Kidde fire extinguishers.

Everington and many others with Greenville Fire/Rescue have been busy inspecting fire extinguishers and smoke detectors, too.

One type features a plastic squeeze handle and the other is a push-button Pindicator.

More than 40 million fire extinguishers, some on the market for more than four decades, are being recalled because they may not work in an emergency. In addition, the nozzles on some of the extinguishers can detach with enough force to potentially injure someone.

The units can become clogged or require force to use and can fail during a fire emergency.

Kiddie extinguishers are sold at home and hardware stores across the nation.

Keitany had won three straight NY marathons, but Flanagan pulled away from the Kenyan great with about three miles to go. Forget about chasing gold - the actor and fitness nut was mostly anxious about avoiding humiliation.

The fire extinguishers were also sold with commercial trucks, recreational vehicles, personal watercraft and boats.

Almost 400 people have reported a fault with the product causing the recall. Also, there were about 91 reports of property damage linked to the problem.

The recall is the result of a 2014 death involving a auto fire. The death, which occurred in 2014, happened when emergency responders tried to put out a auto fire with a Kidde fire extinguisher, but could not get the extinguisher to work, CPSC said.

This is not the first time Kidde fire extinguishers have been under recall. One of her extinguishers is a recalled model of Kidde which she says she'll probably discard.

Both agencies reported that they do not use any extinguishers affected by the recall.
