Hero cop who stopped terror attack: I was just doing my job

The area where the attack happened is just seven blocks from Ground Zero and is a stone's throw from City Hall

The "hero" police officer who shot the man who killed eight people and injured 11 others in Manhattan yesterday has been named as 28-year old Irish American, Ryan Nash.

The New York Times has reported Nash was near the scene of the attack because he and his partner Officer John Hasiotis were responding to a call to help with a Stuyvesant High School student who was suicidal. He was brandishing two guns, which later turned out to be a pellet gun and paintball pistol.

Speaking at the news conference alongside O'Neill and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said Nash deserved all the accolades he was receiving.

A source told Fox News that 29-year-old Saipov was from Uzbekistan and had a green card. After he fired nine shots, Nash was taken to the hospital for ringing in his ears but was otherwise uninjured.

"While we mourn the bad loss of life and the injuries to innocent people we are proud of and grateful for the quick action of a team of police officers who responded to cries for help and took charge of a chaotic and risky situation". "And it gave people such faith and such appreciation in our police force".

Bills trade picks to Panthers for wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin
Beane acknowledged that Buffalo's success played a role in the trade, stating, "If you start 0-7, I'm not sure you trade a pick". Benjamin had been having a decent season for the Panthers prior to the trade, and had been one of Cam Newton's favorite targets.

Borelli named Nash in several tweets, saying he's "the hero cop the world should be talking about", and adding, "Police officer Ryan Nash risked his life to save others".

"He thinks what he did was not an act of heroism". No one answered the door at Nash's two-story yellow Cape Cod-style home on Long Island on Wednesday. "He thinks it's something that - why he joined the police department", said Police Commissioner James O'Neill. "We feel safer now knowing that there's a hero, you know, in our neighborhood".

Around 3:05 pm, the suspect mounted a curb and drove his rented truck down a cycle lane parallel to the West Side Highway in lower Manhattan, hitting cyclists and pedestrians.

Investigators inspect a truck following a shooting incident in New York, Oct. 31, 2017. They showed great courage.
