Residents are encouraged to turn in their unused, unwanted, or expired prescription medications on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue.

In Oregon, special events are planned at the Hermiston Police Department from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m., at the Milton-Freewater Police Department and at Condon City Hall.

"And it's just a place where you can go and drop off your unwanted and unused leftover prescriptions because they're just too risky to leave around". Needles, sharps, asthma inhalers, and illicit drugs will not be accepted at the drop box. The service is free, easy, and anonymous.

Virginia benefitting in multistate Deutsche Bank settlement
The investigation found that from as early as 2005 Deutsche Bank had acted unlawfully in their misrepresentation of LIBOR rates. Deutsche Bank cooperated with the states' investigation, according to the settlement agreement.

A number of local law enforcement agencies will take part in the national movement and take back potentially unsafe expired, unused and unwanted prescription and over-the-counter drugs Saturday.

"Prescription drug abuse is the fastest growing drug problem in the USA, across the Commonwealth and in Southwest Virginia", says Dr. Noelle Bissell, director of New River Health District.

This Saturday, there will be a statewide prescription drug take-back day.

During its 13th National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day in April 2017, the DEA and more than 4,200 of its national, tribal, and community law enforcement partners collected 900,000 pounds (450 tons) of unwanted prescription drugs at nearly 5,500 collection sites.

"Oftentimes teens first use prescription painkillers by stealing the pills from a family member's medicine cabinet", Rutledge said. The DEA estimates the events have resulted in more than 8 million pounds of pills being turned over to the agency. But, as mentioned, disposing of unused medicines by flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash can pose safety and health hazards.
