National Football League seeks unified plan to move past anthem situation

Eagles Chris Long, Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney Mc Leod gesture during the national anthem on Sunday before a game against the Cardinals

Last weekend, Pence was in attendance at the National Football League game between the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers, but left the stadium after almost 20 players knelt during the anthem.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and the player's association executive director released a joint statement that said the league will work together on how to "make progress on the important social issues that players have vocalized".

"The current dispute over the National Anthem is threatening to erode the unifying power of our game, and is now dividing us, and our players, from many fans across the country".

Another NFL weekend of players sitting or kneeling during the USA national anthem - played before every sporting event imaginable in the United States, even when no nations are involved - prompted Donald Trump to renew his criticism of the custom after Monday Night Football.

"Players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking", the league manual states.

Retirement was a well-thought out decision: Ashish Nehra
Against all odds, the injury-prone pacer earned a spot back in the Indian team owing to his successful IPL stint. I realize that when I retire on November 1, there are five months before the next IPL and I could easily play.

The NFL's owners are set to meet next week to discuss the issue.

President Trump praised Goodell's remarks in a tweet Wednesday morning. "As we said yesterday, there will be a discussion of these issues at the owners meeting next week".

We need to elect leaders who understand that we can't just ignore our problems away with a stirring anthem, a enormous flag and military jets flying overhead.

He then slammed ESPN's Jemele Hill, blaming "The Six" anchor for having "tanked" the network's ratings. Commissioner Roger Goodell has written to team owners saying players "should" stand.

"I think it is incumbent upon the players today, because of how the public is looking at it, to stand and salute the flag", Ross said.
