A three-year-old boy was left at a Utah corn maze Monday night

Toddler reunited with family after being left at West Jordan corn maze overnight

Authorities are trying to figure out how a 3-year-old boy was left alone in a corn maze overnight and wasn't reported missing for 12 hours.

Around 8 p.m., employees at the Crazy Corn Maze in West Jordan, Utah, told guests they had found a missing child, but no one stepped forward to claim the boy. According to staff at the Crazy Corn Maze, the boy was emotional, but finally calmed down when a West Jordan officer put a movie on her laptop for the child, reports CBS affiliate KUTV.

But Schmidt said maze workers and police were unable to locate the boy's family and "we couldn't get him to give us his name". After closing time, the owners took the boy to the police station and officers then contacted the state's Child and Family Services.

Then, Schmidt said, an off-duty West Jordan police officer who was working at the maze took the boy to her patrol vehicle, gave him a teddy bear and put "Finding Dory" on her laptop for him to watch.

The boy is expected to be reunited with his family. A police officer took the boy to her vehicle and played a movie for him, Fox 13 Salt Lake City reported.

Monson says it wasn't immediately clear how the child's disappearance went undetected, but police are investigating whether any criminal charges are warranted.
