Fresh Battery Report Sends Apple Stock Into The Red Again

Apple has said it is looking into claims that the batteries in its new iPhone 8 Plus phones are swelling and cracking their cases. The hope, of course, is that Apple finds this was limited to just a few defective handsets, and that it isn't something iPhone 8 users in general need to worry about.

Pictures taken by Liu and displayed on ThePaper's website showed an iPhone 8 plus split open along the side featuring the SIM card holding, with the phone's internal parts visible.

CNET, along with several other tech news sites also reported that multiple reports had come in about the issue.

Samsung initially tried to blame the fires on punters not using the official charging cables, but Apple has, so far, wisely chosen not to go that route, especially since some users have said they did use the official Apple charging cable.

Apple has a short statement on the matter: "We are aware and looking into it".

MEPs vote to stall Brexit talks unless breakthrough is made
The European Parliament , which has a veto on the final deal, also backed a resolution saying there has not been "sufficient progress" yet on the exit settlement.

At least six iPhone 8 and 8 Pluses from Taiwan, Japan, Greece, Canada and China reportedly have been affected by the issue. There was no external sign of burning nor any chemical reaction, and the phone's insides were exposed. It's a far cry from the exploding batteries found in the Galaxy Note 8, but nevertheless, the front of your brand new iPhone shouldn't be popping off.

The first of these issues was recorded in Taiwan by a woman who purchased a 64GB iPhone 8 Plus in rose gold shortly after the phone was released just one week ago.

Wall Street barely blinked at Apple's battery issues.

Shares in Apple edged down 0.2% to 155 on the stock market today. The stock had been up five out of the last eight trading days before reports over a battery issue resurfaced. Pre-orders for the device are likely to be well down on previous model launches, although that may be due to customers waiting for the premium iPhone X which is not due to launch until November.
