Police stabbing, car-ramming in Canada being investigated as terrorism

A rental truck lies on its side in Edmonton Canada after a high speed chase in which the driver is alleged to have deliberately plowed into pedestrians injuring four

A man who allegedly attacked a police officer with a knife and later drove a U-Haul truck into pedestrians in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada is being investigated for "acts of terrorism".

The 30-year-old suspect then exited the vehicle, a white Chevrolet Malibu, and used a knife to stab the officer, police said.

Police is investigating the incidents for "acts of terrorism".

The uniformed officer was standing behind a traffic barricade and in front of his police vehicle at an intersection near 107A Avenue and 92 Street, just southwest of Commonwealth (football) Stadium. There, he slammed a Chevy Malibu into a traffic-control barricade, and in doing so, he struck a police vehicle, exited the Malibu, and stabbed a cop multiple times. The driver then got out and stabbed a police officer before running away.

The officer was taken to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries while a manhunt was launched, and Knecht said his condition was "not critical".

"Currently, it is believed four pedestrians were struck by the truck and transported to hospital with multiple injuries", it said.

The name of the man in custody has not been released.

During this time, the van driver crushed pedestrians.
