Air France plane makes emergency landing in Goose Bay after engine blowout over Atlantic

The Air France flight diverted to Goose Bay airport, where there is also a Canadian Forces Base, according to the airline.

The aircraft, an Airbus A380 model, was en route from Paris CDG to Los Angeles LAX when it declared an emergency. Customers taken care by Air France and rerouting solutions on going.

Passengers were horrified when the engine fell apart following a "loud thud" and "vibration".

The plane was about an hour off the coast of Canada when the incident occurred, Miguel Amador, a passenger on the flight, said.

The extent of the damage or what caused it is unclear, but images shared by passengers on social media show that one of the engines appear to have crumbled.

The plane landed safely and all passengers made it off the aircraft, but the damage to the engine looked pretty catastrophic.

"Just glad to be on the ground", he added.
