ICE Raids Target "Sanctuary Jurisdictions", Including Denver

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency announced on Thursday that it had arrested almost 500 undocumented immigrants over the course of a four-day raid called Operation Safe City which specifically targeted sanctuary cities across the United States.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said 50 people were arrested in MA on federal immigration violations as part of an operation in several cities and states. Local police limit the access of federal officials to interview the criminals arrested for crime in local jails and fail to provide proper information. 9, ICE had made 43% more arrests year-over-year, reports the Washington Post.

In addition to the NY arrests, there were 28 in Baltimore; 30 in Cook County, Illinois; 63 in Denver; 101 in Los Angeles; 107 in Philadelphia; 33 in Portland; 27 in Santa Clara County, California; 14 in Washington, D.C.; and 50 across MA. Only Philadelphia with 107 and Los Angeles with 101 had more.

The arrested included "a Salvadoran man apprehended in San Francisco who entered the country illegally and has previous convictions for sex with a minor under the age of 16".

Over 300 of the people arrested this week had criminal convictions, ICE said, according to NBC.

Earlier this month, officials said they want to formally declare Los Angeles a "city of sanctuary", in response to Trump's moves to end DACA.

In a response, the Acting Director of ICE has stated how they would continue the arrests in areas which hide and shield illegal and criminal immigrants from deportation.

Most Americans believe Trump's North Korea comments aren't helpful
Most Hispanics-by a 60-40 margin-also thought Trump was unfit to be in the Oval Office. Assistant poll director, Tim Malloy said "There is no upside".

Since Sessions and Trump hold the reins at both the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Custom Enforcement, a sanctuary city is essentially whatever Trump and Sessions say it is.

"They are targeting criminal aliens, and they focused on high populations of individuals that are here illegally - also known as sanctuary cities", Hvidston said.

'ICE's goal is to build cooperative, respectful relationships with our law enforcement partners to help prevent unsafe criminal aliens from being released back onto the streets.

Of the people arrested in the state, six were immigration fugitives, seven were re-entries and 15 were "at-large aliens", Cutrell said.

In Baltimore, a citizen of El Salvador who entered the US illegally on a fraudulent passport, and was previously charged with attempted murder/conspiracy to commit murder and convicted of first degree assault.

During "Operation Safe City", ICE also arrested people with minor records or no criminal records at all, according to some legal experts.

"It's clearly a political move that is not actually geared toward public safety", she said.
