Karunaratne leads Sri Lanka fightback in first Test

Both captains will face off tomorrow in a two-match Test series

The left-hander was unbeaten on a sedate 81 with skipper Dinesh Chandimal on 32 not out as the pair added 82 for an unbroken fourth-wicket stand after Sri Lanka were struggling at 61-3. Leg-spinner Yasir Shah took 2-59 for Pakistan.

Kusal Mendis was dismissed by Yasir Shah for 10 in the last over before the break, becoming the leg-spinner's second scalp of the session.

With two wickets during the opening session, Shah broke Waqar Younis' record to achieve the feat, slowing down Sri Lanka after Dinesh Chandimal won the toss and opted to bat first.

At the start, Karunaratne had a solid opening stand of 34 with Kaushal Silva before Hasan provided Pakistan with the breakthrough.

Sri Lanka were coming into the series on a low as they were whitewashed 3-0 in their most recent Test assignment against India in July to August.

Donald Trump wrongly blames 'hospitalized' senator for GOP health care collapse
That, of course, won't be necessary because the 48 votes we gave Trump above included the presumed "yes" from Cochran. Republicans don't have the votes. "The 20 percent is non-negotiable", Trump said.

Prior to the trophy unveiling, the newly appointed captain of Pakistan Test side Sarfraz Ahmed requested the Sri Lankan team to visit Pakistan for the matches.

Pakistan will play their first Test match in UAE after the successful conclusion of the Independence Cup Twento20 worldwide tournament.

"We did quite well in the first hour, but lost two wickets after that".

Azhar was in doubt for the first Test after suffering a knee injury but he has since responded well to treatment, while Yasir Shah will lead the spin attack in a squad with five fast bowlers. The test series will be a different challenge altogether for Pakistan as they will be without services of veterans Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan, both of whom retired in may.
