No Rohingya refugees in Sri Lanka, Ministry affirms

According to the United Nations, over 400,000 Rohingyas have so far fled to Bangladesh since August 25, joining the around one million Rohingyas who were already in the country having traveled there during earlier times of unrest.

While estimates claim as many as one million Rohingya have fled Myanmar since the 70s, the recent wave of conflict in Rakhine is being termed as one of the largest exodus in recent times. Such accounts are consistent with the stories brought by the mainly Muslim Rohingya, who accuse the Myanmar military and Rakhine militias backed by the army of carrying out a campaign of ethnic cleansing against Rohingya.

The scenario was the same as the previous days, when many local people joined government agencies and NGOs to distribute relief goods to refugees in Ukhiya's refugees camps and nearby areas.
