Korea Open: PV Sindhu defeats Nozomi Okuhara to clinch title

PV Sindhu race into semis; Sameer, Satwik-Chirag lose in Korea Open quarters

India's PV Sindhu won the Korea Open Superseries after defeating Japan's Nozomi Okuhara 22-20, 11-21, 21-18 in a hard-fought match that lasted an hour and 23 minutes.

Okuhara's 21-19, 20-22, 22-20 triumph, that gave her the gold medal in Glasgow, could well have left Sindhu shattered since so much rode on the result of that joust.

The win also helped Sindhu to level her head-to-head record against Okuhara, making it 4-4 in eight meetings.

Sindhu and Okura played a neck-to-neck first game before Japanese dominated the second game. Okuhara tried her best but Sindhu continued to pick points to keep the Japanese at bay. This was the second time she met her Japanese rival in less than a month. This is her second Superseries win in 2017 and third overall after clinching the India Open earlier this year and the China Open in 2016.

Hodgson back as Palace sets record losing start in EPL
He received a warm welcome from the Palace fans when he walked along the touchline to take his place in the home dug-out. Hodgson's first match as Crystal Palace's manager is to be an away match against Southampton FC , scheduled for tomorrow.

The final game saw a good start from both the shuttlers but the Indian capitalised on Okhuara's mistakes and took a decent amount of lead at the interval. That she is capable of doing this against any player now on the circuit, means India is looking at a potential world beater as has never been seen over a long time in Indian sport.

Coach Amrish Shinde who sat courtside noted the differences between the World Championship loss and the inverting win in Korea.

Sheer exhaustion forced the Indian on her back as she gasped desperately in an effort to get some air into her oxygen-starved lungs. Sindhu scored 21-10,17-21, 21-16 on Bingjiao. Earlier, she used to be very impatient with matches that lasted for long, but post-Olympics, she has been able to change her attitude and sustain during longer matches. She opened up an 11-6 handsome lead.

Indian badminton champion PV Sindhu is having a fabulous year.
