St. Catherine Security Guard Out of Hospital; Police Trying to Determine What Happened

The security officer, 25-year-old Brent Patrick Ahlers of St. Louis Park, was arrested Wednesday.

St. Paul Police say Ahlers eventually confessed to making up the story because he brought his gun to campus and was afraid he would lose his job.

"He was nervous about losing his job due to the fact that he had his gun at work, and what had occurred, so he made up the story to cover what had happened", St. Paul police spokesperson Mike Ernster said in a press conference Wednesday.

According to the statement, firearms are prohibited on campus and are not carried or issued by St. Catherine Public Safety staff.

Emergency dispatch audio described the supposed suspect as a black man with a "short Afro" in a navy blue sweatshirt, according to the Police Clips website.

Paris: Failed stabbing attack by man shouting 'Allah'
The unidentified man is said to have rushed at a patrol of soldiers wearing combat uniforms and brandishing assault rifles. In January 2015, Islamist gunmen had stormed into the offices of satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo , killing 12 journalists.

Instead of admitting to it, he allegedly blamed an imaginary black man and lead investigators on a wild goose chase, the Star Tribune reported. That's the sad thing about it. He has been charged with filing a false police report, a misdemeanor, and will likely be released from the Ramsey County jail after being booked and fingerprinted. However, despite Ahlers' best efforts to scapegoat his shoulder wound on a nonexistent Black man, he was no longer employed by St. Catherine as of Thursday. They set up a perimeter around St. Catherine's and conducted an "exhaustive" search, with 55 officers, four police K-9s, and a Minnesota State Patrol aircraft circling overhead.

Lisa Clark, a St. Paul resident, told City Pages Ahler's lie put "everyone ... on edge and high alter".

"I want to be clear that St. Catherine University strongly condemns racial discrimination, racial stereotyping, and racial profiling of any kind", said St. Catherine University Rebecca Koenig Roloff.

St Kate's President Becky Roloff said on Thursday that Mr Ahlers' statements about the race of the "suspect" were "deeply troubling and do not reflect our values".
