JJ Abrams to write and direct Star Wars: Episode IX

JJ Abrams

Lucasfilm announced J.J. Abrams will direct "Star Wars: Episode IX" after parting ways with its first director, Colin Trevorrow. Ahead of that release we have The Last Jedi, which arrives in December, as well as the 2018 debut of the (soon to be its on franchise I'm sure) Han Solo solo film. So this is a sensible, fine move for the franchise.

Trevorrow was best known for directing mega-success Jurassic World, which ended up grossing almost $1.6 billion worldwide and led to him being announced as director of the final Star Wars episode in 2015. It was a quick news release and to the point, but Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, who will produce Episode IX, added a statement to express her excitement.

Abrams, seen here with Daisy Ridley, directed "The Force Awakens". However, many fans were hoping to have a female director for the film, but perhaps that will still happen in the future for Star Wars.

Announced on Tuesday morning, the filmmaker will return to direct the final instalment of the sequel trilogy, Star Wars: Episode IX, replacing the ousted Colin Trevorrow.

Banner Hung at Fenway: "Racism Is As American as Baseball"
A USA military veteran was being honored by the Red Sox as the banner was unfurled, but the protester told Drellich that timing was coincidental.

For Episode IX, though, that means Terrio will now pick up the reins from Jack Throne (Wonder), who was originally appointed to fine-tune the treatment submitted by Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly.

According to Deadline, Disney and Lucasfilm previously approached Johnson about returning to direct Episode IX, but he declined. Abrams will return to finish the trilogy he started with The Force Awakens, we are getting a few more details about the highly anticipated film.

Oscar-winning director Ron Howard was brought in to oversee the remainder of the film's production.
