Asif thanked China for its "unflinching support for Pakistan" in the war against terrorism and its commitment to the country's progress and development. China said Islamabad has a "clear conscience" and had made "great sacrifices", according to reports.

He expressed appreciation for Beijing's role in hosting a trilateral Afghanistan-China-Pakistan forum, which is expected to be held at the ministerial level before the end of the current year.

The meeting comes close on the heels of China handing Pakistan an unexpected diplomatic setback at the BRICS Summit in Xiamen when all the five permanent members - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, declared the Pakistan-based militant groups Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad as terrorist organizations, in a move that was praised by New Delhi and Washington.

Wang made the remarks during a press conference after a meeting with visiting Pakistani Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif, adding that Pakistan and Afghanistan are important countries in the region and he hopes the two nations can work together to safeguard stability in the region.

"I look forward to working with you to make official inquiries of the Pakistani government of political activists who have just disappeared, including the brother of a friend of mine", he said.

"Pakistan strongly adheres to one-China policy: We support Beijing on its core issues of Taiwan, Tibet, Xinjiang and South China Sea", the Dawn quoted Asif as saying.
