Saudi crown prince talks with Qatari emir on Gulf crisis

We can endure siege for a long time Envoy

An attempt by President Donald Trump to break the stalemate that has divided the wealthiest countries in the Middle East ended in failure Saturday, when leaders from Qatar and Saudi Arabia, after speaking by phone for the first time in months, exchanged dueling, contradictory statements.

That's why the United States see the unity among the Arab partners as vital to promoting regional stability and countering the threat of Iran.

Shortly afterwards, Saudi Arabia accused Qatar of not being "serious" about dialogue, and said communications between the two sides would be suspended.

Doha, meanwhile, has so far refused to comply, strenuously denying charges that it supports terrorism and describing efforts to isolate it as a violation of worldwide law. He previously has described how Arab leaders criticized Qatar for such terror financing during a regional summit in Saudi Arabia earlier this year.

"The president also emphasized that all countries must follow through on commitments.to defeat terrorism, cut off funding for terrorist groups, and combat extremist ideology".

In what appeared to be a possible breakthrough, Saudi state news agency SPA initially issued a statement confirming Friday's phone conversation, saying that Sheikh Tamim had called Mohammed bin Salman and "expressed his desire" to discuss the demands of the four blockading countries. Saudi Arabia claims the Qatari News Agency misrepresented the substance of the call.

Trump has repeatedly returned to his Mar-a-Lago property since becoming president, both to relax and to conduct state business. Instead, it will be a storm surge, which he said could sea levels rising 8 feet in a worst-case scenario.

Doha has said it is ready for dialogue to defuse the crisis but on condition that Qatar's sovereignty is respected.

Qatar had earlier said that the demands made by the boycotting Arab powers are neither "reasonable nor actionable".

The bloc also voiced "regret" about the Kuwaiti ruler's statement "on the success of mediation in stopping military intervention".

The Saudi-led bloc regretted what the Kuwaiti leader called the success of mediation in stopping military intervention, adding that the military option has not been and will not be considered in any case.

Kuwait has emerged as a key mediator in the crisis, while the United States has given mixed signals on its policy.

"We will be most successful with a united GCC", he said.

Saudi Arabia on Friday suspended contact with Qatar after the representatives of the two countries involved in a diplomatic rift spoke over the phone, Saudi officials said.
