United Nations sanctions seek oil embargo, ban on North Korean workers

The latest move to toughen measures against North Korea follows its latest test in a fast-advancing nuclear weapons programme.

North Korea is more exposed to USA and global financial systems-and thus more vulnerable to US and worldwide sanctions-than many observers realize. He also said China should be looking at whether Kim Jong Un is receiving help from overseas.

The new sanctions against North Korea would follow the security council's unanimous decision in August to ban over $1 billion in exports from the country, following its two intercontinental ballistic missile tests in July.

The proposed resolution would add 42 items to a list of items, equipment, goods and technology that countries are banned from exporting to North Korea.

Trump called his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to try to prevent any further damage to the worldwide solidarity that last month saw new U.S. sanctions unanimously adopted.

Putin stressed the need for a political solution, saying further sanctions and pressure would not solve the problem.

"It would be extremely hard to advance the situation at hand without political and diplomatic instruments", he said.

"It is not worth giving in to emotions and driving North Korea into a corner", he said.

The renewed diplomatic push could not disguise the mounting tension, underscored by China conducting air force drills to defend its east coast "against nuclear and biological weapons".

It would order all countries to freeze all funds, other financial assets and economic resources outside North Korea "that are owned or controlled, directly or indirectly" by Kim Jong Un, the ruling Worker's Party of Korea, the government, or by individuals or entities acting on their behalf or at their direction.

Morgan asked if could accompany Rodman the next time he visits North Korea, and Rodman told him he'd once asked former President Barack Obama to go with him, but Obama roundly refused.

As no peace treaty was signed at the conclusion of the Korean War, North and South Korea (along with South Korea's ally, the United States) are technically still at war.

'President Xi would like to do something.

The draft calls for a resumption of long-stalled six-party talks with the goal of denuclearizing the Korean peninsula.
