Texans-Cowboys preseason game reportedly canceled because of Hurricane Harvey

Bill O'Brien: “We will play this season for the city of Houston”

Houston Texans star J.J. Watt had hoped their upcoming preseason game with the Dallas Cowboys would be postponed following the devastation created by Hurricane Harvey. "A lot of the guys' families have been relocated, coaches and players".

Tennessee Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk made a million dollar-donation to Watt's relief fund. By Wednesday, the Texans were granted their understandable wish to get home to their families and to their city impacted by Hurricane Harvey, and the game was cancelled. Rapoport says fans who purchased tickets can either get a refund or allow the money to be donated toward storm-relief efforts.

Said tight end Jason Witten: "Thoughts are prayers are with them, all the great Texans down there in Houston and South Texas".

Rice's football team, which began the season with a loss to Stanford in Australia, flew back to Dallas instead of all the way home to Houston. And so when it became available to us, we've got so many guys on the team that are distracted by all of the events and circumstances and things that are happening at home that it became increasingly more hard from our perspective to ask those guys to go out and try to play a football game.

But the "circumstances" the Trump White House cited in removing Comey never included anything about Comey going easy on Clinton. On November 6, the Federal Bureau of Investigation concludes it found nothing in the emails to alter its original decision.

Watt questioned whether the preseason finale for both teams should be played, saying there should be a fundraising component to it. Houston could not have provided more support to us during those visits, and we welcome the opportunity to provide this support when Houston needs it most.

"I think it's the right decision", Watt told reporters of the decision to cancel the game. These players, primarily injured, didn't make the trip with the Texans to their game against the Saints in New Orleans last week. "Everybody here is obviously most concerned about their families, their friends, the City of Houston back home". "We've been truly inspired by the resilience we have seen as people continue to deal with what's going on". I think this is bigger than football. The online fundraiser passed $6 million on Wednesday afternoon. It's not just the Houston area.

The NFL Foundation also pledged to match the $1 million donation made by Texans owner Bob McNair to the United Way.

O'Brien then dedicated the season to the city and people of Houston.
