Sony Xperia XA1 Plus announced, packs a few small improvements over predecessor

More Sony smartphones incoming: Xperia XZ1, XZ1 Compact and XA1 Plus announced at IFA 2017

The Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact will launch worldwide at the end of September with Android 8 Oreo, for respectively EUR 699 and EUR 599, while the Xperia XA1 Plus will launch later this autumn for EUR 349. And was it worth the wait? They're also among the very first devices to launch with Android Oreo.

The Xperia XA1 "will be available locally from 1 October 2017 at a recommended retail price of R3999". The phones feature the side-mounted fingerprint scanner that is integrated into the power button - a feature that I would personally like other phones to experiment with as well.

The two phones even have the same dimensions of 129 x 65mm. Meet the Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact. Both, however, come with Gorilla Glass 5 protection and IP68 certification for water resistance. The full-sized XZ1 has a 5.2-inch, 1080p screen compared to the 4.6-inch, 720p screen of the XZ1 Compact, and the bigger phone offers 64 GB of internal storage compared to the smaller phone's 32 GB (don't forget you can expand that with a memory card if needed).

As for battery life, the Xperia X Compact impresses with an average of 36 hours of use per charge. Either of these phones will be easy to operate with one hand.

The Sony Xperia X Compact is pictured here. Your Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Android Nougat update should bring the latest security patches to your device.

Like the flagship Xperia XZ Premium, the Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact are both being powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 processor along with 4GB of RAM and a 2,700mAh battery.

Trump to deliver tax reform speech
Some lawmakers say any plan, which is not yet completed, would likely reduce business taxes no lower than 20 percent. He also suggested eliminating tax loopholes and lowering taxes for middle-class families.

This is where the Xperia XZ1 Compact is once again the superior smartphone.

The company also sports the latest in Sony's proprietary super-slow-motion technology, something it's been pushing for a while now, which captures video at a ridiculous 960 frames per second - and the results are pretty stunning. It also features a 8-megapixel 23mm wide-angle front-facing camera to get more of your friends into a selfie. Charging shouldn't be an issue either, thanks to Qnovo adaptive charging and Pump Express+ 2.0 quick charging support.

However, where the Xperia XZ1 Compact begins to show its dominance is with its fully water-resistant IP67 construction.

Like a number of its stablemates, the Sony Xpera XZ1 makes use of imaging and audio technologies from other parts of Sony's business, such as the MotionEye camera from the Cybershot range.

The XZ1 Compact also has stereo speakers which have 50% more sound pressure than previous models.

Now we have some more renders of the device. However, in South America and the USA, you will have to settle for the 3GB variant. It's also not an improvement in all areas, with the screen and battery size remaining much the same, while the XZ1 Compact will also likely cost more to get hold of. People who want a small phone with flagship features don't have a lot of options-it's basically the iPhone SE or bust.
