Ron Renkoski: Use Donald Trump's own cash for wall

On Katrina's 12th Anniversary, We Remember Mexico's Aid Efforts; Will Trump Accept Their Help For Hurricane Harvey?

If Mexico is having problems funding their wall that is their problem, not ours.

"It's very generous of the government of Mexico to offer their help at this very, very challenging time for our citizens down in Texas and now moving towards the border of Louisiana as well", Mr Tillerson said.

"You're not going to bully United States senators, this isn't the Apprentice", said Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., referring to Trump's star turn on the reality television show.

The president said the wall is "very badly" needed.

Any additional disaster relief could be attached to a debt ceiling increase, making the combined package almost impossible to vote against, Greg Valliere, chief strategist at Horizon Investments, wrote in a note to clients about the impact of Harvey on the so-called "budget brawl".

Despite potentially having much to lose or gain from the outcome of next year's GOP primary for U.S. Senate, the Republican governor of MA will stay out of the fray, at least until after next September's primary is over.

The proposed cuts would include programs run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, whose new administrator was praised by Trump in a tweet last weekend for "doing a great job"; the Department of Housing and Urban Development, which helps rebuild homes, parks, hospitals and community centers; the National Weather Service, which forecasts extreme storms; and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, whose research and community engagement help coastal residents prepare for disaster.

A BRICS report claims that India's innovation growth rate could surpass China
India and China have a long history of mistrust and went to war in 1962 over the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. China and India had been locked in a border standoff since mid-June.

He also promised that Mexico would end up repaying the US taxpayer, a threat - or vow - that he reiterated Sunday on Twitter and on Monday at an East Room news conference.

According to the House Appropriations Committee's Homeland Security budget, the Republican-controlled committee is seeking more than $875 million in cuts to FEMA.

However, some people's stances changed when pollsters specifically asked about the shutdown in relation to the border wall, which experts have estimated could cost $21.6 billion and take more than three years to complete, Reuters reports. But the disagreement between Trump and Republicans on the border wall could lead to a government shutdown.

The poll was conducted by Politico/Morning Consult between August 24 and 28. Twenty-one percent said Congress should raise the debt ceiling in order to meet certain policy goals.

The week's meeting follows a recess that has seen Trump lambast several top Republicans, especially Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., after the collapse of the GOP health care bill in his chamber.

The idea of providing some early federal relief and passing a more significant aid package later is not new and is rooted in both practical and political necessity - especially given that lawmakers likely need to pass a short-term spending measure to keep the government open beyond late September anyway.

"If hurricane relief is part of a spending bill, it would probably be easier to pass, purely from a vote-counting point of view", he noted.
