North Korea Test Fires Three Missiles, US Says All Failed

An intercontinental ballistic missile launches in North Korea

North Korea has fired "several projectiles" into sea off its eastern coast, the South Korean military says.

Lee Il-Woo, an analyst at Korea Defence Network, said the launches represented a "low-level provocative act" carried out in response to the US-South Korea exercises, which are seen by Pyongyang as a rehearsal for an invasion of its own territory.

Two of the missiles flew about 150 miles while the other one appears to have blown up nearly instantly.

Tens of thousands of South Korean and U.S. troops are taking part in the "Ulchi Freedom Guardian" joint military drills, a largely computer-simulated exercise that runs for two weeks in the South.

"We need to see more on their part, but I want to acknowledge the steps they've taken thus far", he said. Two intercontinental ballistic missile tests in July resulted in a new round of tougher global sanctions.

Moon has also pushed China, North Korea's most important ally and trading partner, to do more to rein in Pyongyang's missile and nuclear weapons programmes.

After weeks of relative calm, North Korea has carried out three missile test launches, with US and South Korean officials describing them as "ballistic missiles" fired toward the East Sea, not far from Japan.

MI unveils all-maize uniforms for game vs. Florida
The only bad thing about this tiff is that it is destined to end as soon as MI and Florida take the field on Saturday. The uniform is said to be inspired by recent alternative uniforms Nike created for the LA Rams, as seen below.

Both South Korea and the United States say the training is defensive in nature, but North Korea sees it as provocative and hostile. They say the North may limit its reactions to low-level provocations like artillery and short-range missile launches.

North Korea this week said the exercises were evidence that the United States planned to invade North Korea.

The firings come after the United Nations agreed to impose costly economic sanctions on the country.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has appeared to make a peace overture to North Korea, welcoming what he called the restraint it had shown recently in its weapons programs and saying a path could be opening for dialogue "sometime in the near future".

"They could be ballistic missiles but they could be rockets". North Korea has demonstrated significant advancements in its missile technology this year testing and is on a pace to test more missiles this year than in any previous calendar year.
