Bill Nye files lawsuit claiming Disney owes him over $9 million

Bill Nye the Science Guy Disney Screwed Me With Bad Cash Formula!!

Nye claims Disney, which marketed and distributed his popular show through its Buena Vista Television subsidiary, shorted him on his part of the proceeds. His skepticism started in 2008: Buena Vista sent him a profit share of $585,123 for the preceding year, but just a few months later sent him another correspondence claiming it was an "accounting error", and that Nye then owed the company nearly half a million dollars back.

The suit also disputes the costs Disney claimed to have incurred-which grossed over $20 million-despite the fact that it was largely backed by federal grants from the Department of Energy, National Science Foundation, and other organizations.

The lawsuit's assertions include fraudulent concealment (that Disney and its subsidiaries knew of profits from the show that they kept from Nye), breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty.

Nye is suing for $9.4 million in damages plus $28 million of "ill-gotten" profits the company raked in from the series in subsequent years.

The industry website reported that Bill Nye the Science Guy ran on PBS from 1994 to 1999 and also was syndicated to local stations. It was nominated for 23 Emmy Awards and won 19.

Google is reportedly launching its next Pixel phones on October 5th
With Google having announced the new Android Oreo software, it is expected that the new smartphone will benefit from the system. Hence it looks like we will be seeing a significant design difference between the two Pixel smartphones this year.

"Nevertheless, even in the absence of these essential documents, even without the ability to fully examine the accounting and related records of the Defendants ... the Auditor identified hundreds of thousands of dollars in underreported payments owed to Mr. Nye", writes attorney Charles Rainey in the complaint.

The suit says Buena Vista then stopped paying royalties altogether, insisting that Nye pay the amount he allegedly owed the company.

According to the documentation that was handed over to the courts, Bill Nye became suspicious of Disney's activities when he was told in 2008 that he owed the company $500,000 due to an accounting error.

In 2013, Nye would go on to hire an outside auditor to look into the matter.
