MTV Invites Transgender Military Members to the VMAs

Katy Perry made up for her flat jokes with some high-fashion wins

One of this year's major rumors is that Taylor Swift, who is not one of the announced performers but who is in the midst of a new-music media storm, will make an appearance - possibly with Katy Perry, effectively squashing their long-running feud. She'll also be performing during the show.

Late last night, Taylor Swift fans got their first single from Taylor Swift's newest album "Reputation".

Leading the pack of nominees is Kendrick Lamar, up for eight awards including artist and video of the year, plus best cinematography, art direction and visual effects. Perry, Video Vanguard recipient Pink, Sir Rod Stewart featuring DNCE, Ed Sheeran, Miley Cyrus,Kendrick Lamar, Demi Lovato, Lorde and Fifth Harmony are just some of the bold-faced names taking the stage.

Although DJ Khaled, Rihanna and Bryson Tiller's collaboration on "Wild Thoughts" has become an anthem of sorts since its June release, our spidey senses are giving the impression that Zayn and Taylor Swift's dark and sultry "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" will take home the moon man for Best Collaboration. The competition for that category includes Logic's Black SpiderMan, Immigrants (We Get the Job Done) from the Hamilton Mixtape, Big Sean's Light, Alessia Cara's Scars To Your Beautiful, Taboo and Shailene Woodley's Stand Up/Stand N Rock #NoDAPL, and John Legend's Surefire.

MTV has invited transgender military members to attend this Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in a protest against U.S. President Donald Trump's recently signed ban on openly transgender people serving in the military.

Lieutenant Colonel Paul Haverstick, a spokesperson for the Pentagon told CNN that the request is still being reviewed by the defense department.

Red-carpet arrivals begin at 6:15 ET and the show itself will air live at 8 p.m. ET on MTV and online on MTV's Live TV site.
