DA to bring motion to dissolve Parly

EMERGING MARKETS-Shares shrug off China wobble, Rand readies for Zuma vote

In June, the nation's highest court said it was up to the speaker of parliament to decide whether the vote could be done by secret ballot.

Zuma's presidency has been checkered by numerous political blunders over the years, which have hampered the country's reputation in the eyes of investors.

Ahead of the vote, opposition parties urged members of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) to vote against their President.

Mr Zuma's tenure as South Africa's president is due to run until 2019 when national elections will be held.

The ANC holds a majority of the 400 parliament seats, and the party has repeatedly said its members will not support the opposition-led attempt to unseat the president.

Meanwhile, more than 25,000 demonstrators were expected to join the marches both against and in support of Zuma in Cape Town, where South Africa's parliament is located.

The Zuma camp branded the motion an imperialist inspired move but the proponents argued that the current establishment had been held hostage by the influential Gupta family.

Following a two-hour debate before the voting process on Tuesday, opposition Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane, asked MPs to act "courageously" and vote Zuma out.

Members of the public also wanted their voice heard in relation to the vote, and throughout Tuesday tens of thousands of pro- and anti-Zuma supporters marched in every major city in the country.

AIADMK dumps TTV Dinakaran as Deputy General Secretary
Jayakumar expressed confidence over the merger of EPS, OPS factions of the AIADMK and said he hopes it happens soon. The resolution, signed by the office-bearers including Palaniswami, was released to the media after the meet.

The Democratic Alliance statement came a day after President Jacob Zuma celebrated the failure of another no-confidence motion.

However, only 30 ANC MPs voted for Zuma to be removed.

The ruling ANC party has a large majority in the house, and would choose the incoming national leader.

At the press briefing, where he announced that he will table a motion to dissolve Parliament on Thursday, Maimane dismissed the notion that it will drive ANC MPs to close ranks around the organisation or feed into the regime change narrative that the ANC used to defend the motion of no confidence.

GRANITZ: Highly charged is one way to describe the atmosphere in South Africa.

Some 198 MPs voted against a motion of no confidence in him, 177 MPs voted in favour of the motion and 9 MPs abstained.

Also at issue is Zuma's leadership as head of the party. Zuma's political allies, the South African Communist Party and a federation of trade unions called for him to quit. The currency immediately strengthened on the news that the vote of no confidence will be a secret ballot.

Zuma has survived seven no confidence motions which were conducted by open ballot. Zuma's party has bailed him out from at least five previous attempts to remove him.
