Pakistan to suffer slow internet after cable fault

Internet services in Pakistan were disrupted as a result of a fault in the India-Middle East-Western Europe submarine cable.

The Internet services were restored across the country on Sunday after the disruption caused by the fault in the undersea internet cable, a Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) spokesman said.

Internet subscribers reportedly faced difficulties after the 13,000km-long IMV cable, extending from India till France, was affected by a technical fault near Jeddah on Saturday.

The PTCL spokesperson said earlier that Jeddah has started making efforts to fix the cable, but added that "restoring the network will take some time".

"Outage in worldwide submarine cable systems providing internet bandwidth to Pakistan, IMEWE".

Pakistan Telecommunications Limited (PTCL) stated the company has successfully arranged for additional bandwidth through our global cable systems & partners.

According to the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), at least 26 domestic and international flights were delayed over the weekend due to the internet disruptions.

Pakistan Telecommunication System (PTCL) has however, trying to transfer internet service on other channels but they could not succeed till yet.

Among the cancelled flights were Dubai-bound PA210, Manchester-bound 701, Madina-bound NL705 and Karachi-bound PA201, according to flight inquiry.

Two flights of national flag carrier, one for Islamabad to Barcelona PK-769, was delayed for more than an hour and another one for London PK-785 was delayed for 45 minutes.
